New kidnap suspect falls

A former sergeant in the Philippine Marines whose group of ex-soldiers allegedly kidnapped a scion of a Chinese-Filipino millionaire was arrested Sunday by police anti-kidnapping agents in Barangay Culiat, Quezon City.

Arrested and detained at the National Anti-Kidnapping Task Force (NAKTAF) detention cell in Camp Crame was ex-Marine Sgt. Elpidio Piedad, 40.

Pieded, who is currently employed as a traffic enforcer under the Office of the Department of Public Order and Safety (DPOS), was nabbed at his residence at Doña Faustina Subdivision, Barangay Culiat by NAKTAF agents.

Seized from him was a caliber .45 pistol, an owner-type jeep with license plates CCZ-545 and a number of cellular phones.

During interrogation, Piedad admitted his participation in the abduction of Grace Ong, whose family owns the chain of Llanas supermarkets and department stores. – Jaime Laude
