Wife-beater faces arrest

Police are hot on the trail of a jobless man who allegedly mauled his wife for failing to give him ‘drinking money’ yesterday morning in Caloocan City.

Doctors, who attended to Myrna Avelino, 37, a public high school teacher, said she might lose her left eye as a result of the beating in the hands of her husband, Daniel, 39.

The victim said she was sleeping at around 1 a.m. when the victim, who was under the influence of liquor, arrived and yelled at her, rousing her from sleep.

She told the police station’s Child and Women’s Complaint Desk that she was about to look for her bag to get P20 bill the suspect was asking from her when he grabbed her by the head and slammed her against the wall.

Not satisfied, she said Daniel then punched and kicked her in the body and face, rendering her unconscious.

While attacking her, Daniel also accused her of having an affair with another man, the police said. — Jerry Botial
