Computer shop robbed in QC; P700,000 taken

Police are now hunting a group of unidentified men who broke into a Quezon City computer shop and carted away P700,000 in cash and computer hardware the other night.

The branch of Villman Computer Systems Inc., one of the biggest computer distributors in the country, in Katipunan Avenue, Quezon City was robbed after thieves broke the locks on the door using a bolt cutter.

Eric Villaroman, of the computer company, said that the store, located at 341 Katipunan Building, Katipunan, was tightly secured when he left it late that night. Police said the men carried out the robbery between 1 and 4 a.m.

Stolen from the store were several laptop computers worth P350,000, and five digital photo cameras costing P160,000.

According to POI Erwin Dela Cruz, the suspects might have had some knowledge of computers because they took the most expensive pieces of hardware.

Dela Cruz added that the men also carted away 100 rolls of HP deskjet ink valued at P130,000 and a brand new scanner. He also said the suspects picked the locks of the cash register and took an additional P20,000 in cash. – Matthew Estabillo
