Jueteng rampant in Camanava?

Northern Police District director Chief Superintendent Jose Marlowe Pedregosa yesterday warned the Camanava (Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, Valenzuela) police chiefs against the resurgence of illegal gambling, particularly jueteng, in the northern part of metropolis.

"I have been receiving verified reports on the continued operations of jueteng and other forms of illegal gambling in many parts of your areas of responsibility ... in clear violation of the standing no-take policy," Pedregosa advised the Camanava police chiefs.

Highly-placed sources told The STAR that gambling lords in the northern part of Metro Manila continue their operations with impunity, taking advantage of the transition period of the new government.

They claimed that illegal gambling operators are amassing hundreds of thousands of pesos in daily collections from jueteng, video karera, video fruit games, sakla and illegal racing bookies. – Pete Laude
