Senior Inspector Rogelio Asuncion, 55, of No. 20 Pinto St., Rancho Estate Phase-1, Parang, Marikina City sustained massive internal injuries when an electric post dropped by a speeding truck fell on his vehicle.
He died on the way to the nearby St. Vincent hospital. The driver of the truck, William Nodalo Jr., 22, of 177 Wayan St., Masambong, Quezon City surrendered to Superintendent Leo Kison, Marikina City police chief.
Nodalo was driving a trailer truck owned by the First Forwarder, a freight company, (plate number TCC-574) when the vehicle got entangled in dangling wires. Nodalo failed to notice the wires and continued stepping on the gas, dragging and uprooting the post.
Asuncion, who was on board his gray Toyota Corolla (PSM 917), was on his way home when the post fell on his vehicle while turning the corner of E. Santos and Candazo Streets in Barangay Concencion Uno, Kison said.
The post fell on the roof over the driver’s seat, sending the vehicle swerving to the left and hitting another post. Asuncion was pinned behind the wheel. Bystanders rushed him to the nearby hospital but he died along the way. – Non Alquitran
