Cop mauled just for fun by frat boys

Just for kicks, eight suspected fraternity members mauled a Caloocan policeman in front of his wife yesterday morning in Gen. Luis Street in Caloocan City.

The victim, who suffered bruises in the head and body, was identified as PO3 Virgilio Mennina, of the city’s police Traffic Management Group. Only two of the suspects were arrested, and were identified as Erwin Oliveria and Narciso Feliciano, both 17 years old and residents of Kabulusan 2 Street, Caloocan. A manhunt has been launched for the six other suspects, who fled after the attack.

According to reports, the incident occurred at about 12:30 a.m. while Mennina and his wife were walking along Gen. Luis Street. The suspects suddenly blocked their path and started cursing Mennina.

Without warning, the suspects started beating up the victim as his wife helplessly watched. They stopped only when Mennina fell to the ground.

The attackers were about to escape when Mennina called for help. Responding policemen arrived at the scene and apprehended two of the suspects. Oliveria and Feliciano, who are now detained at the Caloocan police detention cell, claimed that they attacked Mennina for their amusement. – Matthew Estabillo
