CEBU, Philippines - The demolition of pigpens at sitio Ihawan in barangay Mantuyong, Mandaue City went smoothly yesterday with owners, who were earlier issued notices of demolition, tearing down the illegal structures voluntarily.
One of the owners issued a notice by city legal officer Giovanni Tianero is barangay Mantuyong captain Antonio Maquilan, who is engaged in the “lechon” business.
Maquilan said he would end his “lechon” business because the abattoir in barangay Labogon is too far.
Also issued notices were Farley Macasero, Galo Casinillo, Victor Magale, Leodeegario Raya, Rogelio Baclohan, Rick Oclaret/Marites Baclohan, Ronald Lobredo, Franky Lobrido, Mario Olalo, Pablo Sacil, Jonie Baloro, Roberto Igot, Raymundo Pepito, and Boy Yongco .
The notice stated that the concerned violated the city’s zoning ordinance, the sanitation code of the Philippines, and the Animal Welfare act.
Buddy Sanchez of the City legal office yesterday said the owners destroyed their pigpens and brought their hogs to the holding area of the city abattoir yesterday morning.
The hogs were transferred by city government trucks.
In an interview with Maquilan yesterday, he said that with demolition of his pigpen he will no longer pursue with his lechon business since he find the city abbatoir in barangay Labogon to be too far for him to continue with his business. —(FREEMAN)
