CEBU, Philippines - The Talisay City council has authorized Mayor Socrates Fernandez to negotiate with owners of a private lot, the property the city wishes to purchase to carve out an access road for the New City of Talisay Public Market.
City Councilor Edward Alesna, who chairs the committee on market and slaughterhouse, said the city government is interested in purchasing the lot owned by Minerva Larawan, Socrates Larawan, and Rustom Larawan.
The lot has an area of 30,632 square meters.
“It is to the best interest of the city and the general public that an access road going to the new Lagtang Public Market be built,” Alesna said.
Through a proposed resolution, which was approved Tuesday, Alesna said the lot will be used as an access road going to the new Lagtang Public Market.
The Lagtang Public Market, which was named Gullas-Macapagal Public Market, has been renamed as New Talisay Public Market.
The renaming of the market was authored by Councilor Eduardo “Digul” Gullas III.
The renaming of the market drew a strong reaction from an opposition councilor who described the move as a ploy to distance first district Rep. Eduardo Gullas, who will run for Talisay City mayor, from the controversy of the public market. (FREEMAN)
