CEBU, Philippines - A police trainee while attending his Moral Values class at the Regional Training School (RTS7) in barangay Gaas, Balamban town was arrested for qualified theft Wednesday afternoon by the Investigative and Detective Bureau.
PO1 Louie Lagahit, 29, of Panglao, Bohol was arrested by a team led by P Insp. Ramil Morpos by virtue of a warrant of arrest issued by Judge Rafael Yrastorza of the Rtc branch 28 in Mandaue City.
His case stemmed from a complaint filed by his previous employer, Fundline Lending firm, in barangay Guizo, Mandaue City where he worked as a financial consultant.
He is accused of having embezzled the lending firm’s money amounting to more than P400,000 in 2010.
Lagahit told police he had nothing to do with the loss of the money and instead alleged it was his former manager who took it while he gets blamed for it.
He said he couldn’t touch the firm’s money because he was not a collector but a financial consultant who would only oversee the firm’s financial record.
He said he was accepted as a police trainee because he has no pending case.
He also said his background was checked before he was accepted.
He also signed an oath and swore he had never been charged with a crime because what he knew was that his lawyer had already settled the case filed against him in court.
He is now detained at the Subangdaku police station and will be sent to the Mandaue City Jail since his case is non-bailable. (FREEMAN)
