CEBU, Philippines - City veterinarian Dr. Daisy Penetrante will recommend for the demolition of pig pens that still exist at the old slaughterhouse in sitio Ihawan in barangay Mantuyong, Mandaue City.
The recommendation came after three newly slaughtered pigs were found in the area.
Penetrante said when the old slaughterhouse was ordered closed years back, hog dealers were allowed to put up their pig pens in the area provided their hogs were slaughtered at the modern slaughterhouse.
But since they continue to slaughter their hogs in the area, her office will now recommend for the demolition of their pig pens.
Penetrante said the reason why some hog dealers continue to slaughter their hogs in the area is because there are customers who continue to make their orders for “lechon” directly to them.
The three carcasses which were seized last Thursday afternoon were buried immediately for being unsanitary. (FREEMAN)
