Radaza, volunteers remove litter from drainage in village

CEBU, Philippines - Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz C. Radaza and 1,100 volunteers participated in a cleanup drive of the drainage system in barangay Basak yesterday morning.

Also with the group were city administrator Teodulo Ybañez, city legal officer Yuri Beluan, secretary to the mayor Rolando Duero, city health officer Dr. Rodolfo Berame, and city engineer Alan Pedrigal.

The cleaners removed materials made of plastic, pieces of wood, rubber slippers, and even fluorescent bulbs clogged the drainage.

Around 400 volunteers were city government workers while 700 employees were from Aboitiz Group of Companies and locators at MEPZ 2.

The clean up drive is a project of the city government in partnership with Aboitiz.

Radaza has ordered the clean and green office to

clean the drainage system in Basak every month to prevent flooding.

She urged residents in the area to keep their place free from plastic litter.

Basak is the lowest lying area in the city and is prone to flooding.

The mayor has already ordered the construction of a parallel drainage in Basak to augment the present drainage system.

Radaza also directed other barangay officials to do their own clean-up in their places in coordination with the different sectors.

The city mayor also lauded the different industrial establishments inside Mactan Export Zone Phase 2 in supporting the city government’s cleanup drive.
