Talisay brings one-stop shop to market vendors

CEBU, Philippines - The Talisay City government opened yesterday the weeklong one-stop shop processing of business permits of stallholders at the Lagtang Public Market.

“The purpose of this is for the busy vendors to process their permits without having to go to the city hall. So we’ll personally go to the Lagtang Public Market to facilitate their business permit applications,” said Jane Enrile, the city’s licensing officer.

The activity started yesterday and will end on Friday, said Enrile.

Enrile revealed that there are about one-third of the vendors in the market which have no business permits yet. There are at least 700 vendors from the market’s different stalls. The market was opened August last year.

Meanwhile, city administrator Richel Bacaltos said these late applicants will be fined only 25 percent of their business permit fees. But he warned those who will not avail of this program of closure.

“We’ll be forced to close their stalls kung di sila makalukat/renew sa ilang business permit. Nagsabot naman mi nila nga mao nay mahitabo,” Bacaltos said.    - THE FREEMAN
