Taxi driver flees with groceries, arrested

CEBU, Philippines - A taxi driver was arrested yesterday morning for running off with the groceries of a passenger Friday evening in barangay Labogon, Mandaue City.

Roger Cabante, 47, of sitio Kalawisan in barangay Babag I in Lapu-Lapu City, who drives a Ken Taxi, was arrested by men from the Investigative and Detective Management Bureau (IDMB) after Angelie Cellona sought police assistance.

Cellona alleged that last Friday evening she boarded the taxi driven by Cabante at the Pacific mall in barangay Ibabao where she bought her groceries and a sack of rice, all worth P3,200.

Upon arriving at her residence, she told Cabante to wait until she had unloaded her groceries from the boot compartment.

But Cabante sped off.

At the Ken Taxi offices in Mabolo, Cellona confronted Cabante but Cabante denied taking her groceries.

Yesterday, the police arrested the driver.

At the police station, the police proved that the driver took the groceries by looking into his phone messages.

A text message showed that he told his wife to take the rice and groceries to a certain “Cesar.”

Charges will be filed against Cabante. – (FREEMAN)
