Prosecutors in Talisay seek increase in travel allowance

CEBU, Philippines - Talisay City prosecutors now seek an increase in travel allowance given that prices of oil products keep going up.

“We are all aware of the constant oil price hikes and increases in transportation fares. Indeed, our prosecutors are in dire need of assistance to support their daily commutation from Talisay City Prosecution Office to the regional trial courts in Cebu City,” read the March 23 letter signed by detailed assistant prosecutor Mary Ann Castro.

The letter, which was also signed by city prosecutor Marshall Rubia, was addressed to the city council through its presiding officer and Vice Mayor Alan Bucao.

From P200 per hearing, the city prosecutors ask that it be increased to P800 “on the basis of the COA bracket of per diem provided.”

For his part, Bucao said he understands the concern of the prosecutors and said their request is just “reasonable.”

He said his staff is studying the matter to see how much increase the city government would give to them.

Bucao did not however assure that the request would be approved, as they will still have to confer with the budget office.

“Kinahanglan pa sad i-clear daan sa budget (office) kay mao ra gihapon og mapasar sa council unya wa diay budget ang syudad,” he said. - THE FREEMAN
