Bothered by conscience, killer surrenders to relative

CEBU, Philippines - After killing a neighbor December last year, a 19-year-old man gave himself up yesterday morning to a policeman who is a relative residing in Mabolo.

Marvin Narte, of San Francisco town in Camotes island, submitted himself to SPO4 Jessie Diaz in barangay Mabolo, Cebu City because he was allegedly bothered by his conscience.

Narte said he stabbed neighbor Albert Andrade in self-defense.

The quarrel between Narte and Andrade started on board a ship in December last year when both were heading for Cebu City.

Narte alleged that while he was sleeping, Andrade took his Nokia 1280.

He said when he arrived in San Francisco town, he again met Andrade and asked him to return his cellular phone.

But Andrade, instead returning the phone, allegedly got mad and tried to pull out a knife from his waist, he said.

Narte alleged he had to defend himself. So he drew a knife from his waist and stabbed Andrade once on the right shoulder, killing him instantly.

Narte said that after the incident, he went to Cebu City to work in a construction firm.

P/Insp. Jonas Tahadlangit, the OIC of the San Francisco police station fetched Narte.
