Dredging of Cansaga River to resume

CEBU, Philippines - The dredging of the Cansaga River in Consolacion town will be given immediate attention by the municipal government this year.

Consolacion Mayor Teresa Alegado made the announcement in a meeting with barangay captains and members of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.

Alegado said the dredging of the Cansaga River started when she assumed office last 2010 but they realized that it needed to continue after the river overflowed last December and caused flooding in the town.

During the meeting, Alegado directed Municipal Engineer Carlito Maglasang to supervise the dredging in coordination with barangay officials.

Aside from the dredging of Cansaga River, Alegado said the municipal government also looking for a relocation site for those living beside the river. Inventory is also ongoing to determine the number of residents that need to be relocated once the dredging operation resumes. - THE FREEMAN
