Lapu-Lapu to DPWH: Fix roads faster

CEBU, Philippines - The Lapu-Lapu City government is urging the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to fast track the repair of damaged national roads in the city.

These national roads, several of which are located in Barangay Babag, have been damaged through time reportedly by heavy rains and have become the constant subject of complaint by city residents.

Aside from the problem on the repair of national roads, commuters have reportedly complained of the seeming delay in the construction of roads, also by DPWH. For example, the concreting of Maximo V. Patalinghug Avenue has reportedly caused traffic problems in Lapu-Lapu City.

Meanwhile, still on the matter of infrastructure, Lapu-Lapu Mayor Paz Radaza said the city government will pursue its demand for the Mactan Cebu International Airport to pay real property taxes.

Radaza said the city government needs to collect the P1.5 billion real property taxes from MCIAA. A demand letter has been sent and MCIAA has reportedly responded to it. The city’s legal office is now studying the MCIAA letter, Radaza said.

Radaza said the city will use the money to construct more classrooms in the city.
