CEBU, Philippines - The Talisay City council in its regular session yesterday morning requested Mayor Socrates Fernandez to create and convene a technical working group that would resolve the boundary dispute between barangays San Roque and Tanke “and other disputing barangays as immediately as possible.”
“Whereas, there are on-going cases of boundary disputes between barangays in the city, most urgent of which is the dispute between barangays San Roque and Tanke,” read a portion of the newly approved resolution, authored by Association of Barangay Councils president Charles Basillote.
“It is urgently important that data from the actual-on-site resurvey be presented to the appropriate body, in this case – a Technical Working Group that would look into the details of boundary dispute cases between barangays, most especially that of barangays San Roque and Tanke,” further read the measure.
Earlier this month, barangay Tanke chief Perla Cabanes visited the council during its session, and informed the body of the increasing conflict with the neighboring barangay San Roque.
Cabanes said San Roque is claiming that sitios San Rafael and Kalinaw belong to their barangay, when in fact records reportedly show that these two areas are within the boundary of Tanke.
She said the residents there are actually paying their taxes to Tanke; they also get their barangay permits there.
The situation has not only disturbed the affected residents but also officials of both villages, Cabanes said, hence, she appealed the city government to conduct an actual on-site resurvey on their respective territorial boundaries.
Also under the newly approved resolution, other disputing barangays like Candulawan and Bulacao, among others, will also be resurveyed again.
The report of the committee of Barangay Affairs Committee submitted to the council has recommended the “immediate creation” of a technical working group and for it to convene the soonest time possible. - THE FREEMAN
