Belleza to run in 2013 polls; no post yet

CEBU, Philippines - Former Talisay City Councilor Shirley Belleza yesterday admitted that she is running in next year’s elections not as opposition but as an independent candidate.

“Yes, I’m running again, but I might go for independent,” Belleza told The FREEMAN yesterday.

Belleza, now Capitol consultant on Women’s Affairs, also said she remains uncertain what position she will be running for although reports are brewing that she might run for vice mayor.

“It’s still early to tell. As to the position, bisag unsa na lang ngali,” Belleza said.

Should she run for vice mayor, Belleza might end up running against current Mayor Socrates Fernandez who is said to run for vice mayor after his third term as mayor ends.

Belleza served as councilor of Talisay from 2001 to 2010 under the administration party. Her relationship with her party-mates had, however, gone sour when she chose to support her husband, Aberdovey Belleza, instead of the administration’s candidate, Alan Bucao.

Aberdovey was the opposition candidate for vice mayor in the last May 10, 2010 elections. He, however, lost the position to Bucao.
