CEBU, Philippines - Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes gave P3 million in financial assistance to Typhoon Sendong victims in Cagayan de Oro City, Iligan City, and Tanjay City in Negros Oriental.
City officials of Cagayan De Oro and Iligan yesterday expressed their gratitude to the city government of Mandaue for the help.
Cagayan De Oro City Mayor Vicente Emano thanked Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes after receiving a check for P1.5 million from Mayor Cortes.
Iligan City treasurer Louela Maybituin, who represented Mayor Lawrence Cruz, also thanked Cortes and city officials.
Maybituin received the P750 thousand check from Cortes.
Cortes, accompanied by city treasurer Regal Oliva and city Councilor Jimmy Lumapas arrived in Cagayan De Oro City but decided to visit Iligan City first.
After his arrival at the Cagayan De Oro airport, he motored for more than one and a half hours to Iligan City where he was welcomed by city officials headed by Maybituin.
Cruz and other city officials were not around when Cortes arrived at city hall of Iligan because they were with Vice President Jejomar Binay who was in the city yesterday.
After the simple turnover in Iligan City, Cortes and other city officials went back to Cagayan de Oro where he was met by city officials headed by Mayor Emano.
Emano told Cortes that the people of Cagayan De Oro City are happy for the support extended by the Cebuanos, especially residents of Mandaue.
“Nalipay gayud ug dako ang katawhan sa Dakbayan sa Cagayan De Oro City gumikan kay nangunay gayud si Mayor Cortes sa paghatud sa ayuda sa dakbayan sa Cagayan de Oro,” Mayor Emano told reporters.
The city government of Mandaue gave a check for P750,000 to Tanjay City, delivered by city officials headed by Councilor Tony Dabon.
The Mandaue City government has cancelled its yearly Christmas party and donated its budget for the Sendong victims in Mindanao. (FREEMAN)
