CEBU, Philippines - An American national was robbed and shot by a man who broke into his house in Villas Magallanes in barangay Agus in Lapu-Lapu City Thursday evening.
John William Mallory, 60, sustained a gunshot wound on his hips as he chased the robber.
The Homicide Section of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office said the robber gained entry by breaking the glass door at the back of his house.
Mallory didn't notice the robber had gone upstairs to his room where his mini office was since he was busy doing something in the living room.
He said he went upstairs when he heard something unusual, and there he found the robber.
Mallory said he tried to grab the robber but he went to the stairs quickly. As he chased him, the robber took out a gun and fired at him but missed.
But before he left the house, the robber fired again, this time hitting Mallory on the right hip.
Mallory phoned friends who then took him to the Mactan Doctors' Hospital but was later transferred to the Cebu Doctors' Hospital.
Missing from Mallory's house was $400 from his wallet which he had placed on a table. (FREEMAN)
