Man, just out of city jail, shot, wounded

CEBU, Philippines - A man, relishing freedom after a spell at the Lapu-Lapu City Jail for involvement in illegal drugs, was shot and seriously wounded yesterday by three men inside a cemetery in sitio Humay-humay in barangay Gun-ob, Lapu-Lapu City.

Danilo Patalinghug, 50, married, and a resident of the place, sustained three gunshot wounds, and was taken to the Lapu-Lapu City Hospital.

He was later transferred to Don Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) in Cebu City.

The police said Patalinghug was having a drink with cousins Alberto Pagobo and Rickey Ybanez when three other men appeared and fired at them, hitting Patalinghug but missing his cousins who abandoned their relative. The attackers fled on foot.

Police later identified the alleged gunmen as Marvin Dignos, Cocoy Tumulak, and Clikly Tumulak, all residents of the same barangay.

Police have theorized that drugs could be behind the shooting. - THE FREEMAN
