CEBU, Philippines - An allegedly mentally ill person was arrested Wednesday night for stabbing an 18-year-old worker at sitio Care, Purok 8, barangay Camputhaw, Cebu City.
Frustrated murder charges are being readied against Romford Gumba, 21, a resident of the place, for stabbing Olmer Lawag, 18, a food vendor, and a native of barangay Caridad, Baybay, Leyte.
According to the witness Jhonnie Espraguera, 20, stay-in co-worker of the victim said while he was washing utensils with Lawag inside the house of their employer Gumba came in and suddenly punched Lawag which resulted to a fistfight.
Gumba went home but later that night came back with him a folding knife measuring about 6.5 inches long and then stabbed Lawag on the left chest.
The culprit was then held by Tirso Navidad, husband of the victim's employer, while Lawag was rushed by his employer Mirasol Navidad to Vicente Sotto Memorial Center.
Barangay tanods then arrived and brought Gumba to the hospital for identity confirmation.
When Lawag confirmed it was Gumba who stabbed him, the tanods then reported the matter to the police.
Gumba is now detained at the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) jail. - THE FREEMAN
