CEBU, Philippines - Asian EnergySystems Corporation, the company that operates a private sanitary landfill in barangay Polog in Consolacion town will play an active role in the town’s reforestation program.
Engr. Rene Bande, vice president for operations of Asian EnergySystems Corporation said his company supports the program.
The company had planted thousand of different kinds of trees on a piece of land near the sanitary landfill that it owns in barangay Polog even before the landfill started operating.
Last week, officials of Consolacion town joined the synchronized planting of trees in Cebu province initiated by the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc.
Consolacion officials planted trees at the town's open dumpsite in Barangay Polog after it was closed by the town to give way to its rehabilitation and eventually its conversion into a material recovery facility.
Mayor Teresa Alegado said the town now unloads its garbage on a privately-owned sanitary landfill adjacent to the old dumpsite.
The landfill is owned and operated by Asian EnergySystem Corporation, The Renewable Energy Company.
The open dumpsite in Polog was used by previous administrations, but Consolacion has to cease operating it in compliance with the Republic Act 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000, which prohibits the use of open and controlled dumpsite.
Consolacion, which is composed of 21 barangays, produces an estimated 20 to 25 tons of garbage everyday.
The volume however is expected to increase as soon as the SM Mall in barangay Cansaga starts operating.
The state-of-the art sanitary landfill in Consolacion, which was inaugurated in December last year, is the first in Cebu and is seen to solve for a significant period of time the garbage problem of Metro Cebu.
Those who wish to avail of the facility will have to pay specific Tipping Fee to Asian EnergySystems Corporation. – THE FREEMAN
