VECO heeds DepEd's call for Brigada Eskwela

CEBU, Philippines - In its pursuit to support education through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), the power distribution utility Visayan Electric Company, Inc. (VECO) joined the call of Department of Education to be more active in helping the country's public schools.

Last May 28, 22 VECO employees went to the Tayud Elementary School in Consolacion to repair and repaint walls, ceilings, and doors, and replace and repaint dilapidated roof sheets.

The Department Education through its annual Brigada Eskwela Program enjoins the community to gather together to clean school premises and make minor repairs on school facilities before the opening of classes.

For VECO, its CSR is the company's cornerstone of non-energy community involvement.

Aside from helping public schools, the company takes its CSR one step further by encouraging its CSR beneficiaries (like the parents and teachers of barangay Tayud) to become de facto agents in its "Bantay Linya" campaign.       Bantay Linya is a campaign against theft and pilferage of power lines.
