80 couples to tie knot in mass wedding

CEBU, Philippines - Another 80 couples will be wed for free on June 28 at the Sta. Teresa de Avila Shrine in barangay Poblacion, Talisay City.

City Councilor Edward Alesna said the project is part of the 175th founding day anni-versary of Talisay as a municipality.

“Atong target 175 pairs nga makasal na gyud sa simbahan. Mao ning ato silang tabangan sama sa pag-waive sa processing fee sa ilang CENOMAR ug uban pang mga documents diri sa city hall,” said Alesna, who is also an executive committee officer of the parish.

Last March, the city council approved a proposed resolution filed by Councilor Eduardo Gullas III requesting the Office of the Civil Registrar to grant free licenses, permits and certificate of no marriage or Cenomar to indigent couples who are availing of the mass wedding.

“Kargado gud sa rason nga magpuyo-puyo nalang ang kadaghanan sa mga kaigsuonan nato tungod sa mga bayranan sa kasal. Pero kining atong project, libre na tanan. Ilang kaugalingon nalang ilang dad-on ig adlaw sa kasal,” said Alesna. There is also a reception at the covered court right beside the church after the mass wedding.

Last March, 17 couples tied the knot at the same church.

Alesna said they hope to complete the 175 target this October, during the annual fiesta of the city’s patroness, Sta. Teresa de Avila. (FREEMAN)
