Court stops transfer of vendors to new market in Lagtang

CEBU, Philippines- Regional Trial Court Judge Douglas Marigomen of Branch 5 issued a temporary restraining order (TRO) to Talisay City Mayor   Socrates Fernandez which stops him from implementing his order to move the Tabunok public market vendors to the new market in barangay Lagtang.

The TRO freezes Fernandez's order for 20 days starting yesterday.

However, Fernandez's lawyer Owen Algoso said the TRO has no effect since the closure will be on June 28 and the 20 days will due before June 28.

Algoso then manifested into the court that they will not close the market today as the transition will start today until June 27.

Fernandez took the witness stand to defend his order with more than 100 vendors in attendance.

Fernandez said no resolution has yet been approved by the Sangguniang Panlungsod ordering the Tabunok Public Market vendors to transfer to the new market.

He said 11 city councilors approved the transfer of the vendors and only one remains undecided.

Judge Marigomen said he gave ten days to both parties to file their opposition paper.

Fernandez has already ordered the vendors of the Tabunok Public Market transferred to the new market in barangay Lagtang.
