CEBU, Philippines - The deputy police chief of the Mandaue City police station one was unhurt after he was shot at twice by a man who he was supposed to arrest last midnight Tuesday in front of the barangay hall of barangay Centro.
P/Insp. Alexander Nunez was on patrol near the Centro barangay hall on his motorcycle when he noticed a man whose waist bulged and assumed it was a gun.
He got off from his motorcycle, identified himself as a police officer, and asked the man to take off his jacket.
However, the man, instead of heeding Nunez's orders, took off towards barangay Tribunal, at the same time whipping out a gun and firing twice at the police officer.
"Dili man ko ka bawos kay daghan mang mga civilian. Mao to sa ikaduhang buto mihapa ko unya nakasibat gyud siya," Insp. Nuñez said.
Nuñez called for back-up from the mobile patrol division and gave chase. But despite it, the man escaped.
What the police got instead was the red jacket the man took off during the chase.
The man was later identified as one Reynante Moterola alias Enan, 30, a resident of sitio Ihawan in barangay Mantuyong, who is facing a theft case but is out on bail.
A frustrated case is now being readied against Moterola. (FREEMAN)
