MANILA, Philippines - I gotta say, wandering around the mall lately has given me a Silver Springs LSS (Lykke Li version, Fleetwood Mac’s is just way too loaded with feelings). Retro has returned. Again. This time, it is glorious and unflinching, as in the F&F fall/winter campaign, which embraces ‘70s fashion from bangs to toes.
Signature styles of the decade are given a decadent twist. Needless to say, this isn’t your standard vintage festival fashion — it’s not festival fashion at all, in fact, quite the opposite. Fall/winter for F&F feels lush and cozy and exactly what the season requires. Classics are rendered in rich textures like suede, shearling and patchwork, and sometimes trimmed with faux fur.
Tailored culottes, jackets and a trench arrive in real suede leather with the look of crushed velvet. Like Stevie and Patti sometimes did, soft and flowing chiffon dresses are paired with lightweight, knit roll-necks, and a more structured, masculine trench.
Even the colors are retro — but, no filter. Pinks, berries, rust and buttery camels come with pops of orange and teal. Furnished prints add a retro identity to draped jersey tops.
The aesthetic for ladies outwear is maximalist, à la Penny Lane. Throw on a bohemian shearling jacket in the tropics to get the look and the ‘tude. Layering is key to the silhouette. This season’s varied lengths — high-waist trousers, shrunken jackets, pussy bow blouses an shift dresses — make it easy.
Be prepared to be reunited with flared jeans, as well.
