1Novelist Danielle Steel’s daughter and one of the fashion world’s favorite muses Vanessa Traina’s wedding pergola was an explosion of flora, decorated with the most delicate harvest of fresh jasmine and Spanish moss. She walked down the aisle wearing no less than Givenchy couture, so it was just fitting that she made sure she made the grandest entrance possible.
2 Any bride should always feel like a queen. You know what else can make you feel the same way? A $250,000 1910 Edwardian tiara worn by the Queen of Pop herself, Madonna, during her wedding with now ex-husband Guy Ritchie.
3 What’s the one thing that brides tend forget with all the craziness of wedding preparations? Having a hell of a damn good time. This is not the case for the girl who had her bachelorette party in Coachella — Poppy Delevingne. This is what she wore the night before her wedding. We could tell what sh*t went down just by looking at her rainbow fur vest and fully embellished Emilio Pucci onesie.
4These days, a wedding isn’t a wedding without the official hashtag and group selfie. French cosmetics empire Clarins heiress Virginie Courtin Clarins took notes — she tried to fit her guests in the frame, took this “groupfie,â€and stamped it with their #viviandludo wedding hashtag.
5 Marriage ain’t perfect, and chances are, if all is said and done, it ends in divorce. But that doesn’t mean that divorce has to be a painful, traumatizing experience. When supermodel Karen Elson and her then husband White Stripes frontman Jack White got separated, they threw a big party to celebrate the making (it was their sixth anniversary) and breaking (their divorce papers were already being finalized) of their union.
6 It’s your special day as a bride and it’s just proper that all eyes are on you. Supermodel Karmen Pedaru took it a notch waaay higher and wore this barely-there, show-stopping Francesco Scognamilio slip, er, dress that had French lace just to cover her nips. She obviously didn’t want to leave everything else to the imagination.
7 Wedding bouquets should always serve a double purpose. One, for example, is Ms. Bradshaw’s in Sex and the City (the movie). When things go awry between you and the mister on your wedding day, always remember the best weapon of choice is the one you’re already holding.
8 We’re big fans of Sophia Webster’s candy-colored, rainbow confetti shoes. So it was no surprise that her wedding cake, or cupcakes to be exact, were as colorful as her delicious footwear.
9 If you follow wedding traditions, there’s a rule that there should always be something blue, something old, something borrowed and something new in what you’re wearing. We’d like to have a new rule and add “something shiny†to that list. Just like this classic diamond leaf tennis bracelet that Mia Farrow wore at her wedding. Who knows, maybe the right amount of bling will give you that “wedding glow.â€
10 Beth Ditto married her long-term girlfriend and former assistant in a Jean Paul Gaultier wedding gown and walked the aisle barefoot, giving a new meaning to keeping your feet on the ground in matrimony.
11 One thing we’ve noticed from most wedding videos is that no one actually really talks, except of course, during the vows. So it was pleasant to see Coco Rocha’s, filmed by Americana Cinema, that showed not just behind the scenes footage, but served as a visual diary of what really happened on their wedding day. Add to that the bonus interviews with Coco and her husband talking about how their relationship started 'til they got engaged. That’s definitely one video worth looking back on when you grow old.
12 It’s pretty normal for a dog, or any pet for that matter, to be part of a special family celebration like a wedding. You know what’s not normal? Making your pet wear a bespoke Louis Vuitton alligator collar with pouch for the wedding bands because you chose him to be your ring bearer like Brit It-chick Lady Mary Charteris.
13 It’s always appreciated when couples make their guests a priority. When Kate Bosworth got married on a hot humid day at an outdoor ranch, she knew what the weather condition was going to be like so she doubled her wedding invite as a fan. Way to save her guests from all that sweat.
14 On her wedding day, Supermodel Kristen McMenamy entered the church with her left arm holding Karl Lagerfeld (who walked her down the aisle) and her right carrying this beautiful pageant-worthy bouquet. Only difference is, you win no matter what.
15 This is neither a human wedding bouquet nor (God forbid) your innocent flower girl’s dress. It is, suffice to say, an optional outfit for your honeymoon — if you love your husband that much. This is one of Yves Saint Laurent’s iconic dresses before he passed away, the “bride†from his couture show in 1999.
16 It’s not a usual garden wedding reception with picnic tables and mats on the floor if the one getting hitched is a Missoni princess. Heiress to the fashion brand and textile giant, Margherita Missoni tied the knot with a boho, gypsy-esque style set-up. Of course, from the table covers, mats, pillows, and down to the napkins, it was all Missoni. We’d want in on this party.
17 When your wedding is featured in a 10-page spread in Vogue, you know it’s nothing short of high-wattage glamor. Lauren Santo Domingo’s wedding was so epic that each of her nine bridesmaids a.k.a. New York society’s high-profile swans were dressed
by J.Mendel, Vera Wang, Alberta Ferretti, Philip Lim, Proenza Schouler, Giambattista Valli, Michael Kors, Derek Lam and Carolina Herrera. Respect.
18 We say bring back the wedding gloves. As costume-y as it looks at times, there’s nothing like looking like royalty when tying the knot, just like Audrey Hepburn did when she got her Disney princess on and wore gloves with her majestic Balmain wedding gown.
19 Break the rules and wear something out of the norm at your wedding. We applauded Regine Velasquez, the only local bride on our list, when she wore these Chanel S/S 2011 booties to match her fire red Monique Lhuillier wedding gown. Now that’s badass.
20 The beautifully haunting one-of-a-kind Gareth Pugh wedding dress of Dazed and Confused’s Katie Schillingford was so rare, it was displayed as one of the gowns in Victoria and Albert Museum’s Wedding Dresses 1775-2014 exhibition. Her delicate wedding gown was paired with an equally stunning veil by milliner Stephen Jones.
