MANILA, Philippines - Having been so used to Ito Curata making a mark with long, sleek evening gowns and dreamy, ultra-feminine cocktail dresses, it’s a bit of a surprise to see him presenting red carpet wear as separates for Fashion Watch. Gauzy, multi-layered ball skirts paired with a satiny halter top and delicate lace tops with swishy ankle-length skirts make up most of his evening repertoire, proving that glamour can also be a mix-and-match affair.
Though separates mostly made up the show, there were still some notable one-piece creations, particularly an aqua blue structured tent dress that just needs a pillbox hat to vie for Royal Wedding wear and an iridescent brown floor sweeper with an enormous bow detail over one shoulder. His bridal choices are also one-piece wonders that probably exemplify his talents best. For last look, Curata sends off a frothy strapless creation with floral accents trailing down the bodice and one side of the skirt on Ria Bolivar before unveiling another bridal piece, a deceptively simple, expertly executed tube dress on Grace Tagle accessorized with a trailing lace veil worn high — really high — up on the hair. —AGK
