The holy grail of instant slimming?

While languoring in the post-holiday doldrums (read: extended food coma) I came across a controversial quote iconic naughties model Kate Moss told WWD: “Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels.” I reeled at the profundity and brilliance of this insight, and whether it originated from her or not, she was lambasted for fanning the scanty flames of anorexia and other youth-targeted eating disorders. However, if you change “skinny” to “slim” or even “fit,” the mantra would be more socially acceptable.

The fact is, the intangible deliciousness of losing weight and feeling great cannot be translated into complex carbs and refined sugars. The joy of fitting into your skinny jeans is not tasted on the buds, but on the bod. Then again, you could say that Miss Moss never had a shaving of perfectly marbled jamon iberico, a slurp of the freshest raw Japanese oyster, or even a hot, explosive bite of a deep-fried Mars bar — the kind of foods that will make you swoon and forget all about the ridiculousness of conforming to one particular body type.

Still, after the transitory, however transcendental bliss of trans-fatty binging, we are left with our ever-expanding bodies. Diet and exercise are mere January-March romances, and as summer bears down upon us we are driven to look for more drastic measures to streamline our silhouettes. Enter Lipotomy, the latest non-invasive slimming treatment to be available in the Philippines. Lipotomy, similar to lobotomy, means to sever or rupture, in this case fat.

In Lipotomy, a water-based Lipo Tonic is injected into your skin, weakening the fat tissues by causing the cells to swell. An ultrasound and vibrator machine is applied to the area, bursting the cellular membranes. The broken fat will be absorbed by the blood, processed by the liver and removed from the body through sweat and urine.

Dr. Jacques Durand, resident advisor and director of European Slimming Centre, launched the new treatment at Dr. Aivee Aguilar-Teo’s glamorous Skin and Laser Clinic at The Fort’s Burgos Circle. “The treatment actually removes fat,” he says. “Most slimming programs result in water weight loss, which is only temporary. Real fat loss means long-term weight loss.”

Lipotomy is also safer and more effective compared to other popular treatments like it. Unlike mesotherapy, no cocktails of chemicals are used, and unlike liposuction, it is non-surgical. It is a one-off treatment without any downtime (you will just be required to wear a bodyshaper for a few weeks to keep the flesh supported). Liposuction has been known to have even worse aftereffects, like fatty buildups in random places around the body. Since Lipotomy breaks down fat and excretes it from the body naturally, there is no risk of this happening.

“Over a period of two weeks you can expect to drop at least one to two dress sizes,” Dr. Durand says. “We see an average loss of 5-10 cm. after one treatment.”

Sounds amazing and perhaps too good to be true? Try it out for yourself, but might as well indulge in a Krispy Kreme donut milkshake right before you go under the needle. The calorific assault should keep you sated — and sedated — during the two to four-hour treatment.
