The party girl's guide to dressing

Tasked with discovering the formula for the winning party dress (is it a skirt so short you can shake your booty like Beyonce? Or enough glitter and sparkle to turn yourself into a walking lamp post?), YStyle approached designer Tina Daniac, who mysteriously has enough energy to be at most events till the break of dawn.

The designer breaks it down for us.

YSTYLE: You’re kind of a party girl, right? How often do you party?

I don’t consider myself a party girl. It’s too juvenile. But I do go out a lot. It’s part of my job to be relevant as a designer. And it’s also my way of knowing what works in the spotlight and what doesn’t.

What makes a good party?

Something well-planned and considerate to the guests. I enjoy parties with good music, good food, good décor and a good crowd. It should be a treat for all the senses.

What’s the one thing a girl needs whenever attending a party?

The perfect party frock. It should be something she’s comfortable with, feel beautiful in and memorable.

How do you dress when attending a Christmas bash?

I always keep one thing in mind: be spectacular!

Your clothes appear to have a formula: supershort hem and lots of sparkle. Why do you keep coming back to this style? It’s actually kind of the party girl uniform. Keep it short enough to dance in — right?

Yes! Your legs are your best accessory.

Who wears this kind of style?

I have a very wide clientele who request short dresses. From A-list celebs to the craziest ones. I think it’s not about the length of the dress they are after, I believe they come to me because I know what women want. As I’ve said, I myself go out and I know the value of comfort, fit, and style when you’re out there.

Is there a celeb you model your stuff after?

When I create a collection, I always visualize a certain kind of woman. Someone who is strong-willed, confident with her body, the rich, sophisticated and classy type who can go to any place and feel beautiful and superior. A lot of my clients share that same vision of themselves and I think I help them get that message across.

What’s the most useful thing a girl can bring to a party?

Her mere presence is enough. You do not spend thousands of pesos for floral arrangements just to eat it. You spend that much to appreciate it.

And, finally, can you share with us a tip for the perfect French exit?

I find it ungrateful to leave the party without saying goodbye. Forget a grand entrance. Everyone knows that it’s the exit they’ll remember.
