“I could almost smell the dye” model Mia Ayesa enthused as I passed on the tie-dyed leggings to her. The patterns and colors screamed artisan and not factory, it’s hard not to imagine that the piece just came from creator Stacy Rodriguez’s lab. “What makes Glastnost different is the personal touch in every design. Glastnost is able to offer products that are part of a story,” says the creator.
Glastnost is just one of the new independent brands to burst onto the scene. It’s about Intellectual pieces that allow the consumer to wear it their way and avoid the trendzoid trap. “It encourages people to wear your freedom on your sleeve by incorporating shape-shifting qualities in all its designs. It allows the clothes to highlight the person’s personality instead of the other way around. It all boils down to relevance and having the freedom to make it your own.”
Clearly the line is more than shape shifting, it is shifting how we look at clothes and how clothes define us. “Influence varies in every piece or collection,” shares Stacy Rodriguez. “I like choosing a point of influence from the very beginning. My current Mathematics collection is influenced by shapes and measurements. But in general my main point of influence would come from my brother Junie’s realistic approach to designing and my mother’s passion as a spectator of the arts.”
Rodriguez adds, “Most buyers of Glastnost based on my observation are those people looking for a different take on trends who are not afraid to take risks in fashion and are usually at the edge of fashion.”
