MANILA, Philippines - We’ve had a thriving art scene these last few decades. Contemporary art is now something more than just cool, it’s now become insanely profitable as well.So what’s next for art in the Philippines? Who are the next big things we all need to know about before they hit it at Salcedo Auctions? We’re about to have a taste with this Wednesday’s group show called “Naked Lunch.” Next week some of the best young artists are getting together at Altro Mondo gallery at The Picasso, Makati. Featuring the best and brightest such as Cos Zicarelli, Luis Santos, Young STAR contributors Cru Camara, Kay Aranzanso, Mano Gonzales, Tof Zapanta and columnist Carina Santos, the exhibit opening on Aug. 12 promises to be as varied as it is brilliant. The exhibit is inspired by William S. Burroughs’ beatnik novel, Naked Lunch. Each artist was asked to create artworks guided by one of the novel’s coolest quotations: “Rock and Roll adolescent hoodlums storm the streets of all nations. They rush into the Louvre and throw acid in the Mona Lisa’s face.” Composed of paintings, sculptures, photography and other mediums, the show promises to highlight each artist’s personal style as well as the uniqueness and power of a well-curated group exhibit.
