MANILA, Philippines - SM Aura Premier welcomes the Year of the Horse with a celebration of traditional Chinese arts and crafts. Two giant porcelain plates with Chinese brush paintings of horses by Chan Lim, a family of artists and students, highlight the centerpiece of 97 beautifully painted porcelain plates at the mall atrium.
Chan Lim, a family of artists and students, is a group of artists and engineers who are bound together by a common interest in the arts and sciences. They have conducted numerous art classes, workshops, seminars, as well as on-the-spot painting demonstrations. Family members, who are among the few remaining notable Chinese brush painting artists in the country today, have to date staged 10 group exhibits, and have joined several art exhibits locally and internationally.
Grace Christian College owners James and Judith Tan, Henry Co, Tomas Tan Tiang Siong, Antonio Sy, and Chan Lim graced the opening ceremonies. No less than SM Prime Holdings president Hans T. Sy welcomed them together with SM AVP for Operations Perkin So and SM Aura regional operations manager Bernice Baculi, who gave the welcome remarks.
During the event, mallgoers had the rare opportunity to listen to well-loved Chinese selections performed by the Grace Christian College Chinese Orchestra. These included The Moon Represents My Heart, Colorful Clouds Chasing the Moon, Whispers of Spring and Welcoming the Spring Flower.
Other Chinese New Year highlights at SM Aura: the Chinese Dessert Weekends featuring dessert specialties from Eng Bee Tin, Polland, Salazar Bakery, Tin Hao, and Little Store; performances by the Chiang Kai Shek Youth Choir; and of course, the traditional Lion Dance.
