MANILA, Philippines - At the end of a long day, nothing beats throwing on pambahay clothes and mindlessly browsing the Internet for hours. For me, part of my post-stress time is spent on mail-checking and Facebook status updating. The rest is spent on the site Tumblr.com. It’s a photo/music/video sharing website established in February 2007 where people post random photos and videos from YouTube and more.
With Tumblr, people get to see a good sample of the what’s going on in the Internet by just scrolling endlessly (literally, if your account is on endless mode). This week, I’ve decided to sort through the crap on my Tumblr dashboard and put them in a list. Here are five different things from Tumblr that will make you laugh, feel inspired or even wrinkle your eyebrows in confusion.
Oppa Gangnam slender man style
Slender Man is the faceless villain in the indie video game, Slender: The Eight Pages, and “Oppa Gangnam Style” is the hottest Korean dance craze in the world right now. So does it make sense to make one of the creepiest villains dance the most overplayed dance track? Just ask the million viewers of the video. Though the best thing about this video is a cosplaying Doctor from Doctor Who chasing Slenderman down with his sonic screwdriver.

Fishes are friends
These girls wanted to pose with the fishes, but this isn’t probably what they had in mind. The photobombing stingray generated quite a buzz in and outside of Tumblr. While Daily Mail UK reports that a prankster hoisted the smiling fish against the back of these terrified Texans, it disappoints people’s wish that the stingray itself wanted some camera time. Still, it’s a good photo. And the girls? Best “derp” faces ever.

The iPhone 5 was announced just a couple of weeks ago, and people have been clamoring to get on the reservation list. But are people really in it for the phone or for the hype? Jimmy Kimmel says it’s the hype. Jimmy Kimmel Live! showed their “iPhone 5” to people on the street and asked for opinions on the new phone versus the iPhone predecessor. The hitch was, the good people at Kimmel were showing these users not the iPhone 5, but just the 4s. We’re all laughing at these people weighing the same iPhone with both hands swearing one is lighter, but we’ll probably recognize them in line as we wait outside the Apple store for our new iPhone 5. Sweet irony.

Ermahgerd gersbermps meme
A photo of a young girl holding her Goosebumps: Choose Your Own Adventure books while having the caption, “Ermahgerd,” the retainer-lisped version of “Oh my god,” has been circulating the Internet for months now. Don’t get me wrong, it was funny at first, but now it’s just too overused. There’s even a website that translates any word into the “Ermahgerd” language (ex. Young Star = Yin Ster). A couple of weeks ago, Starbucks in the States used the meme to introduce the return of the Pumpkin Spice Latte, which should be cue for this meme to die. It’s just everywhere. The “Ermahgerd” girl doesn’t even wear retainers anymore.

Even if the Philippines isn’t the intended audience in the recent celebrity public service announcement on voting, it’s still a pretty inspiring inspiring video as a whole. Titled “Vote 4 Stuff,” celebrities like Selena Gomez, Zac Efron, Ellen Degeneres, and Joseph Gordon Levitt humorously tell people what they’d vote for if they could vote for anything. The point of the PSA is letting kids know that they have a choice and they should exercise their right to choose. It’s a lesson we should all learn as well. Powerful stuff.
