MANILA, Philippines - Torn denim vests, shoulder pads, and the curliest mullets – what better way to wrap four years of Meiday up than with a trip back to the ‘80s?
Dubbed “Come on Ma, it’s the 80’s!” the last epic Meiday concert will be held tomorrow, Saturday, March 10 at the B-Side courtyard in The Collective (Malugay St., Makati). Make sure to come in your best ‘80s costume as well, since everyone’s invited to be extras that same night for Marie Jamora’s Cinemalaya entry “Ang Nawawala.” Admission is free, so bring your friends and your friends’ friends.
The bands that night? All your indie and semi-indie favorites, from Sandwich to Pedicab, Itchyworms, Ebe Dancel, Ciudad, Outerhope, Ang Bandang Shirley, The Wilderness, Bee Eyes, The Discoball, Misyonaryo, K-Mach, The Purplechickens, Boldstar, and Zach & The Action Pact.
As for Meiday boss Mei Bastes, she’s told Stache magazine that even though the concept of the huge free music festival ends that night, music will still be a part of her life and she’ll definitely hang around doing little gigs here and there. “Meiday is like my baby,” Mei tells Stache. “I am upset that I had to do this. But things end and people have to move on. Who knows, I might do something else and just won’t call it Meiday. Point is, I’m not going anywhere.”
