Rock around Rizal

MANILA, Philippines - Mark your calendars. Ely Buendia, Sandwich, Gloc-9, Ebe Dancel, Jett Pangan, Peryodiko, and Radio Active Sago Project, take the stage tonight, September 16, for a free concert from 5 to 9 p.m., at SM Mall of Asia By The Bay.

The gig is part of “Rock Rizal” — a musical celebration of the 150th birth anniversary of Jose Rizal, organized by Rock Ed Philippines and the National Historical Commission of the Philippines.

Each of the artists has recorded new, original songs inspired by our national hero. While Friday’s concert will feature the live debut of these songs, “Rock Rizal” can already be downloaded for free at http://facebook.com/RockEdPhilippines.

“The goal of ‘Rock Rizal’ is to take Jose Rizal from our school textbooks and into our daily lives — on radio, TV, online, and in our MP3 players,” says Pepe Diokno, Executive Director of Rock Ed Philippines.

“If we listen to Rizal’s vision — even if they were expressed a century ago — we’ll find the ideals we need to help build our country today,” Diokno says.

“Rock Rizal” is presented by Rock Ed Philippines, a nationwide alternative education group, and the National Historical Commission of the Philippines under the Office of the President. Friday’s concert is made possible by SM Mall of Asia.
