Gearing up for a summer of creativity

MANILA, Philippines - Institute of Steiner’s Ideas in Practice (ISIP) Philippines presents its late summer treats for those looking for fun in learning.

From May 11 to 22 (except Saturday and Sunday) there will be “The Write Way (TWW)” held back to back with “Harmony, Rhythm and Pitch (HARP) for Kids.” TWW is a 10-day fun, creative and empowering experience for teen writers and includes writing poetry, short stories and creative non-fiction; exploration of the wonders of words through sound/music, and visual arts; and field trips and on-site writing. (Example: a trip to the mall — yes, there’s poetry in the mall.)

HARP is for kids ages eight to 12, and throughout the 10-day workshop they will get to understand the rudiments of music, sing and play instruments in a group, and learn to appreciate classical music through singing and listening selected program music. The cost of TWW and HARP is P5,000 per workshop, including all materials.

Not to be left out of the summer fun, adults ages 18 to 80 who have always wanted to be onstage can enroll in the five-day “Living your Dreams through Drama” workshop, held evenings from May 11 to 15. In a socially safe situation, drama allows us to play in ways we would never do in other situations and is the art that uses the human being as its instrument. It is the perfect way to explore our unknown and unused inner potential. The fee is P4,500, including snack.

A half-day workshop on appreciating and learning to play indigenous musical instruments from among different ethno-linguistic groups will also be offered on May 21. And towards the end of May, there will be a one-day workshop on sushi-making (“Sushi for Boys and Girls”).

Finally, group guitar and individual piano lessons will also be available.

Sessions will be held Mondays through Fridays at the ISIP Philippines (near Ateneo Law Schools, Rockwell Drive) 6241 Palma cor. Mañalac Sts., Poblacion, Makati City, beginning May 11, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, and ending May 22. There is a workshop fee of P5,000, which includes workshop kit. To register, contact Tintin Montes at 0917-8591877, or e-mail tintinmontes@gmail.com or ISIP.Philippines@yahoo.com.
