Globe, DLSU partners in development

MANILA, Philippines - Globe Labs and DLSU signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to foster a relationship that will result in a comprehensive research and application development process.

The partnership entails that Globe Labs provide DLSU with telecommunications services to aid the university in their development of applications and services. Currently, two applications utilizing Globe’s SMS and LBS platforms are in the works.

“In partnering with DLSU, Globe is helping the university achieve its mission to become one of the leading research universities in Southeast Asia. Globe is honored to play a part in honing leaders, competent professionals, scholars, researchers and entrepreneurs who will participate actively in improving the quality of life in Philippine society,” said Fernando Teodoro, head of innovation development division in Globe.

“Through partnerships with the academe, Globe is providing the students an early exposure to relevant telecommunications technology. Globe takes pride in the fact that the company plays a role in giving the students an edge amidst the challenges we face today,” said Harvey Libarnes, head of Globe Labs.

“I feel glad about this event. It is an opportunity to achieve one of the goals of our college: to be of service to Filipino people; it is also an opportunity to collaborate with the College of Computer Studies whose expertise helps our faculty put in place the knowledge we have generated from research. The beneficiaries of this project will hopefully get access and enjoy of the fruits of science and technology,” said Dr. Exaltacion Lamberte, dean, College of Liberal Arts.

“To strengthen our synergy with other institutions, we endeavor to strengthen our linkages with academic institutions, with industry and with government both here and abroad. We hope that this MOU signing marks the beginning of a stronger relationship with Globe and of our continued efforts to address one of the many difficult problems of our country. This is a genuine La Sallian response to these challenges addressing human development and poverty alleviation in our country through the merging of ICT, developmental studies and telecommunications,” said Dr. Rachel Roxas, dean, College of Computer Studies.

Globe Labs, an innovation arm of Globe Telecom, is tasked with bringing in the latest information and communications technologies at the earliest market-relevant time to customers. It is focused on immersing its developer community with technologies to develop applications across fixed and wireless networks that can be commercially introduced.
