Conference on English language teaching on

MANILA, Philippines - The Ateneo Center for English Language Teaching (ACELT) will hold its 41st Bi-annual conference on Feb. 28. The conference, entitled “Assessment in the English Language Classroom,” will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Leong Hall, Ateneo de Manila University.

All teachers are faced with a variety of questions and problems when deciding how well their students have performed. Questions like “Is this really good?”, “Am I marking correctly?” or “Have I given the students enough input to achieve this task?” often run through a teachers’ head. In addition, the assessment instruments are also called into question. Teachers find themselves asking, “Do the projects/tests/tasks that I had my students do adequately represent how well they’ve done in my course?”

To help answer these questions, ACELT is offering this conference to English teachers of all levels. Apart from the keynote address by Isabel P. Martin of the Loyola Schools English Department, there will be four parallel workshops: item writing, assessing reading, self-assessment for students and assessing grammar.

The registration fee is P1,500 (on site), P1,300 for early bird enrollees on or before Feb. 23. For registration and other inquiries, call ACELT at 426-4322 or 426-6001, local 5315, or visit ACELT office at G/F Dela Costa Hall Ateneo de Manila and ask for Vicky Calderon.
