Orange-letter day for Nickelodeon

It was an “orange-letter” day as kids celebrated what it is to be a Pinoy Nickster and made history with the biggest, most star-studded and first-ever Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards Philippines 2008! Ace comedian and kid-at-heart Michael V. or “The Chosen One” hosted the grand event.

Pinoy Nicksters who raised their voice and made their choice heard had their votes counted. Seven of kids’ favorite celebrities went home with the treasured blimp trophy.

Dingdong Dantes got his first blimp as Favorite TV/Movie Actor presented by Richard Gomez and Maxxine Magalona. Young showbiz villainess Bianca King presented and accepted the blimp on behalf of Kim Chiu, this year’s Favorite TV/Movie Actress while game hosts Jaya and Paolo Bediones plus DJ Miguel presented the winner of the Favorite TV Show, Marimar. Director Joyce Bernal accepted the blimp on behalf of the cast. For the Favorite Musical Act, Direk Joey Reyes and Asia’s songbird Regine Velasquez presented the category via a mini-singing audition complete with the nominees’ audition clips. Crooner Christian Bautista cinched the blimp for this category. Atenean cager Chris Tiu, meanwhile, won the Favorite Athlete Award presented by Marc Nelson and Miriam Quiambao. Beauty titlist Melanie Marquez co-presented the Favorite Cartoon award with Albert Martinez and Megan Young. Nickelodeon’s sponge-y superstar SpongeBob SquarePants scored the blimp. Meanwhile, a surprise “Big Green Help” topiary blimp was awarded to TV-movie actress Chin-Chin Gutierrez.

In all Kids’ Choice Awards, a celebrity burp challenge is a time-honored tradition. In the Philippines, the “burp zone” was interspersed with the “Beep-beep” — or burp-burp! — song (simulating the horns sounding off from world-famous Philippine jeepneys) by the Space Flower Show. Moymoy of Moymoy Palaboy took burping to the next level and won the nod of the audience (besting other burp challengers Rodfil of Moymoy Palaboy and Buwi of Parokya ni Edgar) and got himself a “tire” and pump to remind him of the flair to “sing air.”

Of course, what’s a Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards Philippines without the Pinoy Wannabe Award? — a special award given to a celebrity role who kids most “want to be”! Mega-daughter and singer-actress KC Concepcion bagged the blimp as this year’s Pinoy Wannabe.
