For YStyle’s third anniversary, the theme was film and fashion. Hosts JR Isaac and DJ Montano chose Joey Samson to do their outfits for that night and he responded with much enthusiasm.  He chose to pay tribute to Peque Gallaga’s 1982 classic Oro Plata Mata.  Funded by the Experimental Cinema of the Philippines, the film was a landmark in Philippine cinema and acclaimed immediately as a masterpiece.  It told the story of an upper-class family and their fortunes during the Japanese Occupation of WW II. A favorite of Joey’s, he modeled his designs on the character of Miguel (played by Joel Torre in his first film) who undergoes the most transformation in the course of the movie.  Aptly, this somehow mirrors Joey’s own growth as a designer, able to take on an epic film and still come up with something still distinctly his. – Erwin Romulo
