Acts of Charriol

Charriol’s new watch line, Actor, was presented to Manila’s collectors of fine and well-designed timepieces. Inspired by the life of an actor, Charriol’s new line of timepieces is major leading man material. It’s a line that will be called upon to play a leading role in the international watch stage in the years ahead.

At the cocktail, it was a blend of showbiz and society personalities marveling at the unusually large dimensions for both rectangular and Tonneau timepieces. It was also designed horizontally which is a total switch from the conventional vertical watch construct. The noticeable width makes the leather strap a very striking feature of the Actor watch. And as it is easily interchangeable, the strap can give the watch a whole range of personalities, the same way an actor takes on a different character with every change of costume. In reality, the inspiration for Charriol’s Actor watch line mirrors our own roles on our own life-stages. And vital to our roles are our sentiments, which led me to ask, "What makes us shine on stage?"

ELIZA ROMUALDEZ VALTOS

What gift do you consider timeless?

Fittingly ironic, I would say a watch! Although a watch helps you keep track of the time each day, a well-designed watch will transcend both space (geographic zonations) and time (temporal divisions in fashion history).

JEENA LOPEZ

What is the best gift a husband can give and why?

The best gift that my husband has given me is understanding. During my pregnancy, he was extremely giving especially when I needed my personal time.

CRICKETTE TANTOCO

Do you consider vanity superficial?

I think excessive pride in one’s self or one’s appearance is superficial. However, I am a great believer in maximizing everything you’ve got – there’s nothing wrong with that!

LISA GOKONGWEI-CHENG

How do you spend quality time with your husband?

We sleep!

PHOEM BARANDA

Do you have more watches or more shoes?

I have more of a shoe fetish. I need to have a new pair of shoes every week. I rarely wear a watch because I always find someone to tell me the time.

JOYCE JIMENEZ

How will you make your time with President Bush memorable?

If I were to spend time with President Bush, I’d just be my bubbly self. You never know how it can leave an impression on someone, which it always does.

TINA TINIO

Do you prefer quarts or automatic watches?

I definitely prefer automatic watches; since they are so classy. The ritual of having to wind it each day is a part of what keeping time is all about. That and by caring for an automatic watch every day, you don’t take time for granted!

MYLENE DIZON

For whom would you buy a Charriol?

I’d buy my mother a timepiece because she deserves a timeless piece from Charriol.
Route 17
The fourth anniversary party of Seventeen rocked at the Rockwell tent. Dubbed the Route 17 celebration, it was a night devoted to young talents. Artists, designers and personalities from the country’s top college and universities gathered to compete for top spots in their various fields of fashion, music and arts. Everyone was treated to live performances by Kitchie Nadal, Parokya Ni Edgar and Stonefree. The set-up was similar to a school fair with different goodie booths. The vibe was electrifying. Everyone was on their feet rocking and grooving at the scene. The gathering made me wonder about our perception towards relationships.

SATSUKI YAMASHITA

Does your mother choose your clothes?

My mother lets me choose. She allows me to develop my own style. She gives me money every three months to shop for any clothes I like. And she always compliments my choices.

AZIZA MONDONEDO

How will you spend your day with your boyfriend?

I want to spend it without a chaperon and without a curfew. If I we were to spend time in the city at night, it’d be a fancy dinner at Nuvo and afterwards dancing at Temple. And if we have the whole day, it will be a day in the beach to jetski, banana boat and wind surf. And I also don’t mind capping the day by hanging out with my friends since we both enjoy the company. But I’d make sure our date won’t end up too late because it is bad for the skin and you need to rest after all that alcohol.

AREN ROCA

Who do you share your secrets with, your girlfriends or gay boyfriends?

I don’t have much gay friends and I usually reveal my secrets to my best friend. I ‘ve known her since first year high school and we’ve shared so much about our lives so I’ve grown to trust her. I know she won’t judge me no matter what I reveal.

CARMINA CORONEL

How do you spend time with your girl friends?

If I have spare time, it is spent by shopping together with my girlfriends and gay boyfriends at Rockwell and Ayala Center. We shop a lot at People are People, especially when I have enough cash from both my savings and from my parents allowance.

NICOLETTE BELLE

How would you describe your relationship with your mother?

My relationship with my mother is founded on mutual love and respect. We’re each other’s number one fan and number one critic. Our support for one and the other goes beyond the limit of what is measurable. We are a mother-and-daughter team and the best of friends despite the age gap. We’re always able to resolve differences of opinion and, in the end, always end up admiring each other even more.
