Non-stop dancin’ at G4

If they were only able to move, the dolphins at the open air Glorietta 4 Park would have danced all night when Ayala Center threw a rockin’, hip-hoppin’, and swingin’ dance concert there recently. Billed "G4 Dance," the event gathered dancers from a melting pot of dance eras who let their feet loose on stage as the awestruck Ayala shoppers and Makati habitues watched.

The event was hosted by hunk and former Keep on Dancing’s Mark Nelson and the svelte TV anchor Regine Tolentino who is also known to have some of the best dancing feet in tinseltown. Pairs of ballet and modern jazz performers struck the audience with their perfect spot pirouettes, sculptured arabesques, well-pointed battements and high-fly grand jetes. For the ballroom dancing category, the contestants, students and professionals alike, did the chacha and foxtrot and swayed their hips with boogie, swing and salsa. While Regine, Mark and Maribeth Bichara showed off their dancing mettle, Lana Asanin, Nikki Valdez, and Jackie Lou Blanco also performed with the VIP Dancers, the Air Dance, The Maneouvers, Big Men and DTM.

Among the nine schools that competed for the dance contest were Rizal Technical University, Assumption College, University of the Philippines, Pamantasan ng Makati and AMA Dance Troupe.

Assumption Danz Move wowed the crowd with their stunning quick-wave motions and crackling moves, which made them, win the first prize worth P30, 000 in cash. The UP Street Dancers, made the crowds’ jaws drop with their wild contortions and cunning steps. They earned the second prize worth P25, 000 while the PNM Synchronizers earned P15, 000 for the third prize.

The panel of judges included Ayala Land’s CJ Jensen and Dave Rafael, Jackie Lou Blanco, and Mari Beth Bichara. Among the guests spotted were Ben Chan, Miguel Pastor, and Jojo Liamzon of Bench and Human and Ayala officials, Pinky Abad, Cathy Bengzon and Patti Javier.
