COMPAQ EVO NOTEBOOK N400C
One of the newest laptops today is the Compaq Evo Notebook N400C. Only an inch thick and 3+ pounds, these specs make the N400C the ideal traveling companion for the mobile person. What makes this product different from other laptops is its multi port feature. This allows for expansion capabilities depending on the multi-port module attached to it. With this, any user-replaceable multi port module can be used to so long as it is attached to the multi port slot. The available modules for the moment are those with hi-tech digital functions such as Bluetooth technology and wireless LAN capability.
Since the technology is very new, many of the multi-port modules are still in their concept phase and have yet to be seen.
But the expansion doesn’t stop there. The N400c also offers the ingenious mobile expansion unit or MEU. Once this device is connected to the laptop, you can then have add-ons such as floppy drives, DVD slots, additional batteries, and a host of other peripherals. And what’s cool is that its hot pluggable function allows you to remove and attach these compatible devices without having to shut down or restart your computer.
MICROSOFT OFFICE XP
Office XP is Microsoft’s latest product that aims to give users a whole new experience when it comes to desktop applications. It includes the usual applications like word, excel, powerpoint, and outlook but with a twist. Example, don’t you just hate it when you lose pages of work you practically spent hours to type due to a computer error? Well, Office XP allows you to recover your work after restarting your PC. It saves everything up to the last keystroke. It automatically saves as you type; so if you’re the kind who never remembers to hit "save," your dark days are over. Now you can just type away and never have to worry about losing a single word.
But its coolest feature would have to be its speech recognition function. How it works is that instead of typing in commands, you can now talk directly to your PC. To be able to use this function, you must first "train" your software to get used to your voice for it to work properly. Once it gets used to the sound of your voice, you can give your fingers a rest and let your PC type up those pages for you. So with word, for example, if you’d like to change font size all you have to do is verbally command your PC "high light all," then say "font size twenty-four," and wallah! Talk to your PC just like you’re talking to a friend.
PALM M125
This latest release from Palm is a dandy. It’s a PDA which takes the curvy form factor of the entry level Palm m100 but carries the updated features of the more advanced m500. The hardware definitely improved aesthetically with its new rubber flip cover which doesn’t easily crack unlike its hard plastic predecessor. And it also uses a new reflective LCD screen for much clearer monochrome images. In terms of processing data, the m125 can go as fast as the m500 because they now make use of the same microprocessor. This coupled with Palm’s latest operating system version 4.0 puts it at par with the m500 series. And speaking of comparisons with the m500, the m125 also incorporates a universal connector which allows attachment of peripherals compatible with the m500 like Palm’s foldable keyboard, 56k modem, and others. Lastly, the m125 has an added card slot which can accept expansion cards like SD and MMC for additional memory.
DOCKERS MOBILE PANTS
Form, function, and fashionability all come together in this pair of trousers. Meet the Dockers Moblie Pants where dressy slacks fuse with carry-all cargo pants. You know how it’s always a hassle to have a bulge coming out of your pant pockets because of your cell phone or PDA? It can cramp your style, I know. But the mobile pants offers seven custom-made, standard two front and two rear pockets, an inside button pocket, and a hidden zip "vault" pocket in the right leg which lets you keep small valuables like expansion cards or coins in place. Add these to a novelty idea of a "seam pocket" with a zipper that blends into the seam of your pants where you can keep a cell phone, PDA, or any gadget of that size. Say goodbye to bulging pockets with this pair of trousers which come in khaki, brown, dark blue, black, and olive green.
AUDIO DVD
Released locally just a few weeks back, audio DVD is the latest breakthrough in audio digital recording. Physically it looks exactly like a regular CD but the hardware, material, and composition of an audio DVD are different from a regular CD. And because of this, it’s difficult to be ripped and burned. So pirates out there, try copying this! Also with this new technology, audio DVDs have a high-resolution audio capacity. What this means is that the sound has superior clarity and quality compared to your regular audio CDs. It’s also got features that CDs don’t offer like a video playlist, pictures, artist’s discography and biography, background info on the songs, anecdotes, production notes, music videos, and every Pinoy’s favorite…lyrics so we can all sing along!
