Radisson Blu cited for sustainable operations

Radisson Blu Cebu’s general manager Nishan Silva receives the Sustainable Hotel Award.

MANILA, Philippines - For its dedicated commitment to preserving the environment, Radisson Blu Hotel Cebu was recently honored with the Sustainable Hotel Award for Sustainable Operations at the 25th Annual Hotel Investment Conference Asia Pacific (HICAP) in Hong Kong.

Established 25 years ago, HICAP is considered the most established conference for Asia Pacific’s hotel investment and development community.

Led by the guiding principle, “We are the people, we are the community, and we are the environment,” Radisson Blu Cebu holds to responsible business practices with a concern for the health and safety of their employees and guests.

Through active programs and consistent monitoring of environmental performance via its participation with the EarthCheck Certification Program, Radisson Blu Cebu has achieved significant reductions in total waste, emissions and consumption; proper monitoring of per guest night metric ratings; and exceeding best practice benchmarks.

Radisson Blu Cebu’s key contributing initiatives include mangrove and tree planting, wide-sand water saving devices, rain water collection for irrigation and cleaning, creation of an in-house Integrated Energy Committee driven by the Blu Connect Council (BCC) for overseeing the hotel’s compliance on energy and water efficiency; pro-active employee and guest education, and extensive recycling and waste  management programs leading to zero waste.

“Being part of the hospitality industry, we always believe in providing a holistic experience that is driven by managing environmental and social sustainability through our program, Responsible Business. We are humbled by the honor to be the 1st city hotel not only in Cebu but in the Philippines to be awarded by the HICAP Sustainable Hotel Awards for Sustainable Operations. As our commitment to the people, environment and the community, we will continue to improve and develop further our acts of Responsible Business,” said general manager Nishan Silva.

The hotel also recently bagged a special recognition on Climate Change in the Sustainable Business Awards Philippines 2014 by Global Initiatives. The hotel is also one of only two hotels in the country to be EarthCheck Silver Certified since 2012.
