Celebrating 45 years of InterContinental Manila life

MANILA, Philippines - InterContinental Manila, the longest operating international chain hotel in the Philippines, is celebrating its 45th anniversary this year having officially opened its doors to the global community in April 1969.

To commemorate the event, the hotel held several activities aimed to reward guests and members of the InterContinental community.

The 45th anniversary celebration of InterContinental Manila commenced with an exhibition showcasing entries taken by select participants of the 45th Anniversary Photo Contest who were allowed to take photos of the hotel rooms, restaurants, and other facilities.

The exhibit also featured archived photographs showing the hotel’s construction phase in 1968, inauguration, the opening team of the hotel, and rare photographs of the original design of guestrooms and outlets.

As part of its anniversary campaign, InterContinental Manila hosted a series of activities with the theme “45 years, 45 blessings.”

The roster of activities included random acts of kindness such as free ice cream treats for hotel guests and passersby, free stored value MRT cards at the Ayala station, free parking tickets at Glorietta Parking, free snacks for taxi drivers, and free fresh bananas and water for runners at Ayala Triangle Gardens.

InterContinental Manila was built as part of the overall redevelopment plan for Makati CBD to emerge as the new financial, business, and commercial center of the country.

Owned by Ayala Land Hotel’s subsidiary, Enjay Hotels Inc., and under the management of the InterContinental Hotels Group, the hotel was designed by National Artist Leandro Locsin.

The overall architecture and interior of the hotel served as a symbol of pride for the country, as all of its 332 guest rooms and suites incorporate traditional and modern Filipino design.

Since its opening, InterContinental Manila has been known for its legacy of unparalleled service, a landmark hotel that mirrors Filipino hospitality, history, and world-class service.

Aptly called the “Grand Dame of Makati,” the hotel has been a frontrunner of numerous accolades and awards from the past to present, including TTG Travel Awards as the Best City Hotel in Manila for 2012, World Travel Awards’ Philippine Leading Hotel for 2013, and as honorary awardee during the 2013 Mabuhay Awards for being the sole surviving pioneer member of AHRM since its establishment in 1974.

While activities for the 45th anniversary have been concluded, InterContinental Manila continues to celebrate its solid reputation for fine service and memorable InterContinental experience, 45 years and beyond.

InterContinental Manila is located at No. 1, Ayala Avenue 1226, Makati City.
