World Muslim travel confab opens in China

MANILA, Philippines - The World Muslim Travel Agents Conference kicks off in China today until Sept. 9 in Ningxia.

The conference is organized by the People’s Government of the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region and China National Tourism Administration (CNTA) in order to strengthen the exchange and cooperation of the tourism industry between China and Arab and Southeast Asian countries.

On invitation of the CNTA-Singapore office, five Philippine delegates – including two travel agencies which handle Muslim destinations, two media (including The STAR) representatives and one from the China Panorama Tourism Information Center and Library – are attending the event.

China is home to more than 20 million Muslims, with the greatest concentration in Ningxia which has many Islam holy sites. With a unique landscape, local customs and habits and ancient history, Ningxia is an interesting tourist area for those wishing to discover a rich and diverse region.

Airline sponsor is China Southern Airlines, which operates the largest fleet, most developed route network and largest passenger capacity of any airline in China.

With Guangzhou, Beijing and Urumqi as its central hubs, the carrier boasts a substantial route network spanning more than 150 destinations in China with service to many cities in Asia, Europe, America, Australia and Africa.

The China Panorama Tourism Information Center and Library was commissioned by CNTA to be the group’s escort throughout the event.
